Nico Beach Themed Birthday Party Featured in Mingle Magazine
I take tremendous pride and pleasure in designing events that leave lasting impressions on my clients and their guests. When my designs are also appreciated by a greater audience that’s incredibly flattering and warms my heart.
A couple of months ago Mingle Magazine asked me to write an article about the design and planning of a very special birthday celebration called “Nico Beach”. I jumped at the opportunity to share my vision with the readers of Mingle Magazine. In case you missed the issue, below is an excerpt from the article about this special event and how I brought the client’s vision to life:
I’m always honored when clients turn to Event Du Jour to help them design their family’s milestone celebrations. Whether it’s an engagement party, a wedding, or a birthday, my ultimate goal is to design events that are not only beautiful, but also personalized, meaningful, and memorable for everyone involved.
Over the years I’ve had the pleasure of working with many families to create one-of-a-kind events. Although every child’s birthday is a cherished occasion, I’ve come to realize that there is something truly special about celebrating a baby’s first birthday.
One of my favorite first birthday parties I’ve designed was for baby Nico and we called the event “Nico Beach”. It was a play on words and the inspiration behind the theme of the birthday was Nikki Beach, the famous, luxury beach club in Miami with a stylish, yet relaxed and effortless atmosphere.
The Nico Beach party took place at Malibu Cafe in California in the middle of the summer. It was the perfect location for this theme because the natural surroundings added to the setup and made it even more beautiful. The planning process took 1-2 months and we worked with a large creative team of talented vendors to bring the theme to life.
It’s important to work with vendors you can trust to do a great job. Sometimes spending a little more to work with a trustworthy, talented, and experienced vendor is the best way to save time and get satisfactory results. There’s a famous saying in Armenian that I live by: “There’s nothing cheaper than the expensive,” which basically means, when you go for the cheaper options you end up spending more time and money to redo something you don’t like. Whereas if you spend a little more from the get-go, you save time and you essentially don’t spend more for do-overs.
Planning a special event is a fun-filled, exciting, and sometimes stressful task for clients. One of the challenges of designing kids’ parties is finding the right balance between “fun” and “aesthetically pleasing”. An important part of my job as a planner is to help the client pinpoint a theme that is a perfect fusion between their personal style and desires, and then add an “icing on the cake” touch to elevate the design.
Coming up with new and exciting themes and designs is always top of mind at Event Du Jour. I want our clients to feel like their event is unique and true to their personality and style. My goal is always to bring clients’ visions to life while exceeding their expectations.
For Nico’s birthday, we made custom etched coconuts as a refreshing drink for guests and beautiful custom desserts and cake. As favors, each guest walked away with a gorgeous handmade flower crown and mini Champagne bottles filled with Champagne gummies.
“Nico Beach” was a gorgeous celebration of a beautiful boy’s first birthday with all of his friends and family in attendance, but it also happened to take place on one of the hottest days of the year. My advice to clients planning a similar event in the thick of summer is to either hold the celebration early in the day or in the evening to avoid the high temperatures in the afternoon.
It was an honor to design Nico’s first birthday celebration and I feel so grateful to have been a part of this family’s treasured moment.
