What I learned about Planning Weddings during a Pandemic
As the wedding and events industry is returning to some sense of normalcy after almost two years of a global pandemic, I’m finding myself reflecting on what I’ve learned about planning during a time when planning was close to impossible. I’m especially appreciative of the close-knit relationships I’ve established with my clients over the past two years.
I am always grateful when engaged couples choose me to help them plan their wedding and I take great pride in putting all my heart and soul into creating a magical wedding experience from start to finish. When the pandemic started, the planning aspect of my job proved to be especially challenging with many unknowns about what tomorrow, next month, and six months from today would look like. A majority of couples were forced to make the difficult decision to postpone their wedding date not only once, but numerous times.
For many couples, the planning process, which should be an exciting time, turned into a whirlwind of emotions and questions about if and when their wedding could take place. In addition to feeling nervous about whether or not the wedding could go on as planned, clients were concerned about the safety and well-being of their guests during this unprecedented time. I could definitely relate to all this worry of the unknown - not only as a planner but also as a “pandemic bride” myself who had to postpone my own wedding several times.
Being a wedding planner usually involves being a part of the couple’s support system and I always develop a close relationship with my clients. At the height of the pandemic, my client relationships grew closer than ever. From the low points of crying over postponing a much-anticipated wedding date, to the high points of finally being able to celebrate getting married surrounded by loved ones - we did it all together. Planning a wedding during the last two years has definitely been an emotional rollercoaster ride for everyone involved! My clients who tied the knot during the pandemic will forever hold a special place in my heart.
