Shower Mom With Love on Mother’s Day (and every day!)
Mothers and mother-figures play important roles in most events we plan at Event Du Jour, whether it’s as the mother-of-the bride, mother-in-law, or mother-to-be. With Mother’s Day just around the corner I’d like to take a moment to celebrate all the wonderful past, present, and future mothers I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years.
I’m always honored when clients trust me to help them plan a celebration of their most special, personal milestones in life such as a wedding or baby shower. Keep reading for details from some of my favorite events I’ve planned celebrating motherhood.
Baby Shower
A baby shower is an opportunity for people close to the family to give gifts and be of help before the new baby arrives. It is a beautiful way to celebrate the expected birth of a child and the transformation of a woman into a mother. Preparing for a new addition is a special time in a person’s life and I love coming up with beautiful ways to celebrate this joyous occasion.
The most recent baby shower I designed was for a beautiful mom-to-be named Arpy. Friends and family gathered for a boho chic backyard picnic to celebrate Arpy and the pending arrival of her sweet baby girl. Guests were seated on comfortable poufs around a long table set with whimsical centerpieces in dusty pink hues, macrame chargers, and flatware in rose gold. Gorgeous c-shaped floral arches graced the middle and both ends of the table. To see the full transformation of the space check out this reel that we shared on Instagram!
Another memorable baby shower was the one I planned for my beautiful client Melissa. Together with a talented vendor team, Event Du Jour designed a Pink Carnival theme to celebrate the gorgeous mother and the pending arrival of her precious baby girl. Guests enjoyed the theme-inspired decor and goodies such as animal shaped cake pops, baby bottles with pink gumballs, cotton candy waffle cones, and a spectacular circus tent cake. It was an oh-so-sweet celebration!
Baby Sprinkle
Originally, baby showers were intended to help the first-time-mom gather advice and necessary items to prepare for the arrival of the new family member. Over the years the baby shower has evolved into more of a celebration of the mom-to-be and her bundle of joy. Although gifts for the mother and baby are still very much an important part of the event, today’s baby showers focus more on spending quality time with close family and friends before the baby arrives and showering the mom-to-be with love.
So what about having a Baby Shower to prepare for baby number two, three and four? By the time a sibling comes around most parents already know all about sleepless nights, changing diapers, and different parenting styles, and they probably have all necessary items for the new family member. In my opinion, all expectant moms deserve to be showered with love and perhaps even more so the second, third, or fourth time around! A Baby Sprinkle is a small shower for moms expecting a subsequent child, especially a child who is of a different gender than the previous offspring.
Recently Event Du Jour planned a surprise Baby Sprinkle for a client’s pregnant cousin and the pending arrival of her second child, “Baby S”. For this outdoor celebration we created white balloon clouds with crystal raindrops above the long table which was set with a monochromatic color palette and subtle touches of baby blue. At the end of the table we placed an 8ft high wall which we adorned with a blue balloon garland on one side and beautiful florals on the other side. We placed a pedestal for the gorgeous, blue cake right in the middle. It created a perfect backdrop for the celebration of the glowing, soon-to-be mother-of-two.
In addition to Baby Showers and Baby Sprinkles, Event Du Jour has had the privilege to work on other types of celebrations centered around motherhood and welcoming new additions to the family. Sip-and-Sees and Gender Reveals have become increasingly popular over the years and are always fun to plan.
The designs for Sip-and-Sees and Gender Reveals are often similar to Baby Showers and Baby Sprinkles with cute themes and pastel-hued decor, but the celebration itself is more centered around the baby instead of the mother. Below are some examples of the design I did for a Sip-and-See and a Gender Reveal.
As I scroll through the photos from the milestone events I’ve been fortunate to be a part of, and which all have a special place in my heart, two thoughts occur to me. The first is that from a design aspect all joyous celebrations seem to feature balloon installations, exquisite treats, and stunning floral arrangements! Secondly, but more importantly, although the role and meaning of mothership comes in all shapes and forms, all these events have one significant thing in common - they are celebrations rooted in respect and deep love.
To all mothers and aspiring moms out there - Happy Mother’s Day from me to you! I hope you’ll be showered with love not only on Mother’s Day, but every day.
